Potted History: Answering to a forwarded cutting from the BU's email circular for contributions to the 2007 resource DVD resulted in 'My God' being chosen for inclusion. It just needed to be re-recorded, and quickly. The new version was done at Richard King's Worthman Studio in February. The BU added a video/stills presentation so the song could be used by churches as a worship resource. The resultant finished article appeared along with 4 other artists in the DVD 'A Baptist People: United in Mission'. In style, it's not too dissimilar to the 'Here I Stand' acoustic version, just with drums and electric guitar. It's a little longer, and there's a trademark Rich King solo in the middle. |

Potted History: With a change in circumstances I decided to record a debut solo CD in 2004. 'Here I Stand' is the result. An acoustic mix of worship and contemporary songs, it was recorded by Phil Rowe, over just three days in July 2004. Ideally I would have liked to have recorded a full band but I had neither the time or the money to do so. But it did give me a taste of the studio nonetheless. As I've concentrated on Worship Leading much of my songwriting has focused on songs for corporate worship ('My God', 'Your Love is Greater', 'Jesus Christ'), but 'Here I Stand' also features 'Heal the Pain', co-written with Dan Green (in fact written for SoundStory but never performed) a song about how we can easily miss the signs of child abuse or domestic violence; 'Hanging by a Thread', written some 7 years prior to recording is about how I somehow hung on to faith during a very low time (or God hung on to me....), and 'Look at Us Now' looks at the mess broken relationships leave behind. The title track, also 7 years old by the time it was recorded was the first song I ever wrote directly from scripture, coming as it does from Psalm 51. |

Potted History: SoundStory
performed as band from mid-2001 to early 2003. Although we started with a
smattering of covers and self-penned material by the time we had to call
it a day we had a set made up of entirely original material. Amounst
others, we played twice at Southend Vineyard's Sunday night show at Club
Riga in Westcliff, and also hired out the Leigh Grand's upstairs room for
a charity gig. Time (or lack of) and circumstances brought the band to an
end, although Dan Green and I along with Charles Keith (Drums) and Warren
Bye (Bass) performed under the SoundStory name twice in 2005. 'It's Time'
was recorded either in Rayleigh Baptist Church or in Richard's house in
his little home studio. In reality we ought to have spent a lot more time
on it but it provided a snapshot of what we were about and, along with the
charity gig, raised over £300 pounds for The Warehouse Centre.
I still use a number of the songs, mainly on Street Witness days and still get together with Dan Green to chat and jam occasionally. Rich is now in Bracknell, and Dan Chadwick is at Southampton University. |
