New Album Update
|
| Well here is the page dedicated to all this to do with the new album. Like a lot of things, this takes a lot of planning so this page will keep you updated as to where I'm at and so on. |
|
Have a look at where the songs are currently at HERE |

Demo-ing and rehearsals will start early in 2007 with the following people: Stuart Conway: Bass Guitar. Stu plays bass in my fixed group at RBC and also played on Here I Stand Mark Murthen: Drums. Mark is Stu's mate from their Uni days. He's drummed for us on a number of occasions. Matt Menlove: Guitar. Matt is a guitarist in the Music Group at RBC, he's also co-writing some songs for the album.
Recording will initially be at Worthman Studios in Bracknell, with my good friend Richard King at the helm. Like everyone else, we all have day jobs so the actual start is still a bit fluid at the moment, but it will happen! Once recording has started, I'm hoping to get other friends involved, especially those who have helped, and continue to help me on various things music. |
| Latest News: |
| 9th July 2008 - Paul, Rich and myself spent quite some time on 24th May discussing the album, the songs etc. Paul made a pile of notes and we start recording proper on the August bank holiday weekend. In the meantime I need to try and get the recording gear set up here again in order to try and get some demos done that can be used as guide tracks. We're looking at making the sound a bit brighter than the recording of My God from last year, and there will definitely be a rocky edge to it, but there was also plenty of talk about using some keyboards, piano and loops as well as various guitar tunings and other such things. Some songs might sound a little different to how they've been previously done, but the wealth of ideas has given us plenty to aim at. Roll on August!! |
| 7th May 2008 - 24th May is the day we're getting together at Worthman Studios to discuss the new album. Looking forward to it already. |

April 2008 - Just waiting for Rich to get back to me on some
dates and we'll be finally starting!! Yay!!
There are some updates on the songs here. |
| 1st March 2008 - Songs page has an update on two songs. Two old, one new, have a look here. On the general news front, Matt and I finally got together to start looking at guitar parts on the songs demoed last year, mainly Holy, Jesus You Are Holy and My Saviour. Lyrics wise, I was reading Tim Hughes' latest little book called Holding Nothing Back and a part really stood out to me. I can't remember exactly what it was now, but I felt God challenge me to write my worship songs from as much scripture as possible. So that's what I've started to do, and He has blessed me already. I'll hopefully be contacting Richard shortly to get some dates sorted to out for some planning and probably begin recording guide tracks. |
| 27th August - Songs page has a brief update. |

10th May: Bit late but the rehearsal went well on the 28th. We carted all the gear into the 'Base' at church and set it up like a studio (drums on a bit of carpet, all facing each other, that sort of thing!!). Four songs done as a band: 'Break the Chains' - quick rock out, we eventually nailed the bridge bit with some smart drum work from Mark 'Will You Come' - this sounds like a newer 'My God' actually, similar pace, with an acoustic rhythm. 'I Will Sing (Holy, Jesus You are Holy)' - we've altered the start to repeat the 1st verse and come crashing in on the chorus, seems quite effective. 'My Saviour' - I thought I'd try this out unaltered in the end, and it's shaping up to be a great album closer (running at 7mins!!). Now it's been tried in a band format it's sounds just as I imagined it would so thank the Lord (literally) that I stuck with the original arrangement. We could extend the end into a complete guitar solo fest if the fancy takes.... Two songs done with just the acoustic guitar: 'Sinner's Lament' & 'All for Love' - I got these down just to have decent recordings of them as such, but the consensus from a few people is that they don't need anything else except perhaps a little extra guitar or some keyboards or vocals, but not a full band. So that was a very useful exercise. For some strange reason we didn't do 'The Heavens Tell', so that'll get done next time. Next rehearsal is scheduled for 23rd June. |
| 3rd April: Next rehearsal planned for 28th April. |
| 30th January: New Song added, check here. Rehearsal booked for 17th Feb |
| 17th January: first rehearsal pencilled in for 17th February with Mark and Stu (Matt's working). |
| 16th January: 'Blues Skies' nears completion, see here. |
